Google Groups KillFile 1.4 Released

Flushed out the script a little so that there is now an extra menu item ‘Kill File’ added to the Google Groups(G2) nav. When you click it you will see a list of everyone currently in your killfile. To remove someone from the list just click on the X next to their name.

The next piece of the puzzle is to allow adding regexps to the killfile, and then being able to apply the rules to both author and subject. Anything else you can think of just let me know via a comment. Enjoy.

Hi Damian

This is a great tool !

Question:

I installed it today and killfiled a few authors.

There are two strange effects:

The first effect (disappeared in the meantime):
——-

I wanted to reply to a message and and hit “Preview” before posting it:

The header in the preview-window was unusual:
—————————————-
Preview your message

Your message has not Ignore User yet been posted. The text of your message appears below.

Click “Edit Message” to make changes to this text.
Click “Post Message” when you’re happy with what you’ve written.
—————————————–

the usual text should have been:
—————————————–
Preview your message

Click “Edit Message” to make changes to this text.
Click “Post Message” when you’re happy with what you’ve written.
—————————————–

as you see, somehow a line was added: “Your message has not Ignore User yet been posted. The text of your message appears below.”
“Ignore User” is linked to the killfile Java script.

In addition, it wouldn’t show the *text* of my message (no message field, no text, no field name).

I tried “preview” a few times and then prepared a new message instead. The same thing happened, the content of the message wasn’t visible.

Finally, I posted it without previewing it and now the message shows up correctly in the use group.

—————————————–

The other strange effect is:

If I try to reply to *my own* posting (posted above), the message field is not showing at all, only the field name “Message:” The text is nowhere.

If I try to reply to postings by *other* authors, the message field looks perfectly normal, the text is there.

And now, also the preview works (I cannot repeat the first effect anymore)

and …..
If I try to answer to one of my *older* postings and hit preview:
everything looks normal !

Kind regards,

The second effect happens also with postings of other authors. If I hit “reply” to some postings, the message text (and field) is not visible in the “reply window”. If I reply to other postings, everything looks normal.

So far I can’t see on what it depends. The author (initial or not, killfiled or not), if somebody posts to several groups at the same time ….. there doesn’t seem to be a rule …… weird …..

Yes, but it’s not exactly user friendly. Type about:config into firefox to show all the options, then filter on the word grease to find the greasemonkey variables you’ll see one called greasemonkey.scriptvals./Google Groups Killfile.MeFiBl, that is the list of usernames you’ve blacklisted delimited by %FF, so you can manually edit that to add/delete people.

Well, I’ve tried it, I see blocked username in the killfile now, but it still not blocked in the newsgrop.
