Google Groups Killfile Bugs

Just a quick update, right now there are a few bugs in the script that I’m working on resolving. Crazy busy in my day job this week and next but will have some time after that to really sort things out. So bear with me folks :)

Hi Damian

While you are at it …. how about an option to switch the Killfile off temporarily (whithout having to delete all killfiled authors from the Killfile to get the same result)?

Advantages:

- one could still keep an eye on spam activities in a (much abused but important) usegroup and if necessary warn one or the other new poster who isn’t aware of it being spam

- as one or the other bug blocks important activities (e.g. post an answer, read long postings …) but might take time to get corrected, one could just switch the Killfile off temporarily, post an answer and then switch it on again.

Anyway, I don’t mind waiting for the debugging, your Killfile script is well worth it :)

Well a real quick on/off can be accomplished by right clicking on the monkeyface and disabling greasemonkey itself. Your killfile won’t be affected and you can reenable at any point.

Things have calmed down a lot at work so I’ll be able to spend some time getting things flushed out sooner rather than later.

A suggestion, since posts that mention killfiled authors are also filtered, would be to filter the email address of the poster, with the google enforced ellipsis like in the line “”The Comic Imbecile” ”

I suggest this because a post I make mentioning said killfile and having filtered off a number of trolls was filtered for my having mentioned them.

I think this is important because valueable discussion goes on in which the names of trolls are mentioned.

Thank you thank you for trying to implement a feature that should have been done by google long ago, you deserve a medal. :)

The problem with using the … is that if the email address supplied by the poster contains a displayname then the elipsis isn’t displayed. Right now the script works pretty well for the two ways of viewing the posts to a group i.e with/without text. Where the script is screwing up seems to be in the thread detail view. I should have a little time coming up to devote to this so I’ll try and put out a new release in the next week or so (I’ll also post this comment as a post to keep folk updated)
